MIDCOAST BUSHFIRE DISASTER ASSISTANCE

Posted October 24th, 2023

Bushfire disaster assistance is now available for residents of the Mid-Coast Local Government Area (LGA), who were affected by the severe bushfires that occurred from the 16th of October 2023 onwards.

This assistance is made possible through the collaborative efforts of both state and federal governments via the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, shared her concern for the impact of the bushfires on local communities. “Local residents in Mid-Coast, Kempsey and Port Macquarie Hastings have endured the devastating effects of these bushfires. My thoughts are with those affected.”

The assistance made available through DRFA covers various forms of support, including:

–       Help for eligible individuals who have suffered damage to their homes or personal belongings, subject to specific eligibility criteria.
–       Support for our local councils to help cover the costs associated with the clean-up and restoration of essential public assets that have been damaged.
–       Concessional interest rate loans intended to assist small businesses, primary producers, and non-profit organisations.
–       Freight subsidies for primary producers
