Patients in Myall Lakes have been left suffering as wait times for elective surgery at Manning Base Hospital skyrocket under the Minns Labor Government according to new independent health data.
Member for Myall Lakes Tanya Thompson has slammed the Labor Government for turning a blind eye as our health system continues to buckle under growing pressure.
“The latest Bureau of Health Information (BHI) data paints a dire picture and reveals a complete breakdown in care from a Labor Government that has done nothing to ease the workload on our regional health workers,” Mrs Thompson said.
“Local patients are waiting months longer than they should, often in pain and distress, while Labor fails to act.”
The BHI report shows fewer surgeries are being completed on time, waitlists are growing, and patients are being left behind. Semi-urgent procedures are now taking over three months, while wait times for non-urgent surgeries have been pushed out to almost 12 months.
“The previous Coalition Government invested $408 million over two years to get surgery wait times under control after COVID,” Mrs Thompson said.
“Now that Labor has slashed that funding, with no adequate plan in place to meet growing demand, our hospitals are slipping backwards fast and no amount of Government spin can hide that.
“Our hardworking local health staff are doing their absolute best and it’s time Labor stepped up to fix this mess they’ve created.”
