I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Councillor Dheera Smith.
Dheera was a very passionate advocate for our community. Since being elected to MidCoast Council in 2021, and re-elected in 2024, she worked hard across a broad range of issues, particularly in protecting our environment, social inclusion, and community wellbeing.
She served as Chair of the Koala Reference Group, the Community Inclusion and Wellbeing Reference Group, and the Heritage Reference Group, among others, and gave her time generously to the causes she believed in.
I extend my condolences to Dheera’s family, friends and all those who knew and worked with her. She will be greatly missed.
