The Great Lakes Art Society presented their 42nd Open Art Exhibition at Forster Gallery on the 30th March, with an official opening and awards ceremony, drawing artists from both near and far.
Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson said “Year after year, the calibre of art showcased at this exhibition blows me away. The hard work of the Great Lakes Art Society in curating this exhibition is truly commendable.”
“With 260 incredible artworks on display, this exhibition really is a testament to the thriving arts scene within our region.”
The judges comprised of highly acclaimed Wingham Artist Yvette Hugill and her ceramicist husband Peter Hugill. The pair assessed the entries, recognising outstanding artistic achievement across eight major award categories, totalling over $10,000 in prizemoney generously sponsored by local businesses.
Reflecting on local support, Mrs Thompson said, “The sponsorship from businesses like Ray White Forster Tuncurry, who are a longstanding sponsor shows the invaluable role our community plays in supporting our regional artists. Without sponsors the prizemoney would not be possible.”
Mrs Thompson proudly sponsored two sections of the exhibition, the Best Drawing and Best Small Painting awards.
“I was very excited when both of my sponsored awards were claimed by talented local artists and members of the Great Lakes Art Society, Margaret Stockdale and Julia Davis.
“Congratulations to all of the winning artists and to the overall exhibition winner Shannus O’Sullivan, a Queensland artist,” said Mrs Thompson.
The 42nd Open Art Exhibition is open daily from 10am-4pm, until the 28th of April, at 34 Lake Street, Forster.
