Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, has honoured long-serving dragon boating leader, Wendy Orman, with a Seniors Local Achievement Award during the Manning River Dragon Boat Club’s annual regatta in Taree.
“Wendy has been involved in dragon boating for 15 years – coaching, paddling, and mentoring many individuals,” Mrs Thompson said.
“She is not only a talented athlete but a volunteer, giving six days a week to training sessions and running the Learn 2 Paddle program for members aged 16 to 80.”
Wendy has seen the club succeed at major events such as the Pan Pac Masters and Lunar New Year Festival. She has represented Australia in five Aurora’s National Dragon Boat campaigns, competed in NSW State Teams since 2012, and been part of Region V Region Teams for the past three years.
A Level 3 Coach and Level 2 Official, Wendy has also served as a coach presenter and committee member for both the Manning River Dragon Boat Club and the Great Lakes Pearl Dragons.
“It was an absolute pleasure to surprise Wendy with this award in front of her fellow paddlers, friends, and the community she has helped grow,” Mrs Thompson said.
“I thank her for everything she has done and continues to do for our sporting and volunteer community.”
