Tanya Thompson, Member for Myall Lakes, is joining the Pink Up Forster Tuncurry campaign by hosting a special “Pink Up & Paint” event on October 27, to raise funds and awareness for the McGrath Foundation’s Breast Care Nurses.
Mrs Thompson said that Forster Tuncurry will be turning pink this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“I love that our community is coming together with exciting events to support those locally who are experiencing breast cancer.”
The “Pink Up & Paint” event, held at Mrs Thompson’s office in Tuncurry, will feature local artist Shelley Kurtz from Paint with Shell. Participants will be guided through painting an artwork of the iconic Forster-Tuncurry bridge.
“It doesn’t matter if you can’t paint, it’s all about having fun while contributing to a cause that provides support for breast cancer patients.
“$80 from every ticket sold will go directly to the McGrath Foundation,” Mrs Thompson said.
McGrath Breast Care Nurses provide physical, psychological, and emotional support to individuals and families affected by breast cancer, from diagnosis through treatment.
This fundraiser is close to Shelley’s heart, whose mother Lesley was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time earlier this year. “The support that Mum and our family received from her Breast Care Nurse after surgery was invaluable,” said Shelley.
“Mum’s Nurse regularly checked in, offered guidance and information, and provided reassurance during a really tough time in our lives.
“This care came at no cost, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back with Tanya and contribute to others receiving the same support,” Shelley added.
