THOMPSON SUPPORTS MYALL LAKES STUDENTS WITH $5000 KICK START SCHOLARSHIP

Tanya Thompson, Member for Myall Lakes, has announced her “Kick Start Scholarship” for 2024, which encourages high school students in the Myall Lakes electorate. Now in its second year, the scholarship recognises not only academic or sporting excellence but also a determination to excel beyond the confines of a classroom.

Mrs Thompson is proud to be continuing the scholarship, “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to support local students in their academic studies.

“I understand the financial strain that education pursuits can place upon families, this scholarship offers a kick start, an opportunity for a deserving student to start their educational journey with an advantage,” Mrs Thompson said.

The Kick Start Scholarship is open to students residing within the Myall Lakes electorate, applicants must be enrolled in years 9, 10, or 11 for the year 2025. The scholarship winner and runners-up will be chosen based on academic or sporting excellence, determination, application responses, and letters of recommendation.

Mrs Thompson said the calibre of applicants was exceptional last year, “I look forward to reading this year’s applications and I encourage all eligible students to apply.”

Scholarship Benefits: 

The scholarship winner will receive a comprehensive package worth $5000.00, including:

·    $500 Dymocks voucher
·    $1500 Officeworks voucher
·    An all-expenses-paid day trip to NSW Parliament House for an MP brunch, including travel costs for the recipient and one parent or guardian valued at $1000
·    A contribution to TAFE or school fees and excursions for the following year valued at $1000
·    $200 Saltwater Wine voucher for school equipment
·    $300 Manning Shoes voucher for school shoes
·    $500 school uniform voucher

Additionally, two scholarship runners-up will each receive a $250 Officeworks voucher.

Charlotte Bennett, Kickstart Scholarship winner for 2023 described the scholarship as an incredible opportunity, saying “This scholarship has given me the support I need to achieve my education goals to study childcare.”

Applicants are required to complete the official application form available on Tanya Thompson’s website, www.tanyathompson.com.au. The application period for the scholarship will open at 9:00 am on Monday, September 16th, 2024, and will close at 5:00 pm on Friday, November 15th, 2024.

Successful scholarship recipients will be announced on December 13th, 2024.
