THOMPSON SLAMS MINNS GOVERNMENT FOR DELAYED AND INSUFFICIENT FLOOD SUPPORT

Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, has pushed the Minns Labor Government to finally deliver flood relief for the Mid North Coast, but says the support announced today falls well short of what’s needed.

Mrs Thompson, who condemned the government’s delay in Parliament today, said it was disgraceful that it took pressure to force action on a disaster of this magnitude.

“This government dragged its feet while families were displaced, homes destroyed, local businesses and primary producers pushed to the brink,” Mrs Thompson said.

While the newly announced grants will provide limited assistance, Mrs Thompson is calling for immediate activation of Category D funding, which would allow for long-term infrastructure and economic recovery support.

“We’re dealing with a one-in-500-year event. If this doesn’t qualify for Category D funding, then what does?” she said.

“People have lost everything; they need real support to rebuild. I won’t stop fighting until our communities get what they deserve.”
