Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson is calling on the Minns Labor Government to address dangerous staffing levels at Manning Base Hospital.
The hospital was not listed in the twelve facilities to be included in the Safe Staffing Levels initiative that was announced this week.
Mrs Thompson expressed her disappointment at the move saying she has expressed her concerns to the Health Minister on multiple occasions.
“The Manning serves a population of around 100,000 people but our dedicated front-line workers are stretched to their limits and are in desperate need of help,” Mrs Thompson said.
“We have heard stories of patient load increases and that wait times are blowing out in the Emergency department – I have raised this issue with the Health Minister as a matter of urgency.
“I’m not sure why the Manning has been overlooked but I am calling on the Government to reconsider its decision and have it included in this initiative as a priority.
“Immediate action is needed to improve nurse-to-patient ratios and increase support for healthcare staff who are carrying such a heavy load, and I will keep pushing until we get a solution.”
