THOMPSON BACKS TAXPAYER FUNDED AMBULANCE ROSTERS IN MYALL LAKES

Posted February 3rd, 2025

Tanya Thompson, Member for Myall Lakes, has voiced strong support for the Ambulance Division of the Health Services Union (ADHSU) campaign urging the NSW Government to maintain taxpayer funded paramedic rosters as promised.

Currently, paramedics in the Myall Lakes region are frequently sent out of town to cover staffing shortfalls in other areas, leaving local communities vulnerable. Last week, a Taree day shift crew was sent to Kempsey for an entire day, further stretching already limited resources.

Mrs Thompson said our paramedics are on the frontlines of emergency care, and they deserve the support they were promised.

“This isn’t about asking for more money – it’s about making sure the services already funded by taxpayers are delivered where they’re needed,” Mrs Thompson said.

“When a crew from Taree is sent to Kempsey for the day, it leaves our community short and puts lives at risk. That’s unacceptable.

“Communities in the Myall Lakes should not be left vulnerable because the promised resources aren’t being provided,” she added.

Mrs Thompson pledged to advocate for the maintenance of fully funded rosters and called on the NSW Government to step up and direct NSW Ambulance to deliver the services promised to the region.

Mrs Thompson will continue to work with ADHSU members and other MPs to push for action.

“Our community deserves to feel safe knowing that paramedics are available and ready to respond locally when emergencies happen.”
