The Diabetes Alliance Program Plus (DAP+) Medibus visited Forster and Taree this week, bringing a fully equipped mobile health clinic to provide specialist diabetes care closer to home for local residents.
The team on board included an endocrinologist, diabetes educator, Aboriginal health worker, and podiatrist, supporting patients directly and working with local GPs, nurses, and allied health professionals to strengthen diabetes care in the community.
Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, said the Medibus is a welcome initiative for the region.
“Diabetes affects around one in eight people in our region, and access to specialist care is often a challenge in rural and regional areas.
“Having the Medibus visit our towns means people can get the help they need without having to travel long distances.”
The service was fully booked for this visit, but the Medibus will return to the Lower Mid North Coast in November. Anyone interested in accessing the service should speak to their GP or local healthcare provider to arrange a referral.
