
Tanya Thompson, Member for Myall Lakes has been advised that in response to the approaching Tropical Cyclone Alfred, which is forecasted to bring heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and potential flooding to the region, several public schools in the Myall Lakes electorate will be temporarily closed on Thursday, March 6, and Friday, March 7, 2025.
The following schools will be non-operational:
- Bobin Public School
- Chatham High School
- Chatham Public School
- Comboyne Public School
- Cundletown Public School
- Elands Public School
- Lansdowne Public School
- Manning Gardens Public School
- Mitchells Island Public School
- Mount George Public School
- Old Bar Public School
- Taree High School
- Taree Public School
- Taree West Public School
- Tinonee Public School
- Upper Lansdowne Public School
- Wingham Brush Public School
- Wingham High School
- Wingham Public School
These schools are expected to resume operations on Monday 10 March 2025, unless further updates are provided.
Mrs Thompson said, “The decision to close these schools is necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff.
“I urge all residents to take the warnings associated with Tropical Cyclone Alfred seriously and to follow the advice of emergency services.
“We have faced natural disasters before, and our community has always shown resilience, please stay informed through official channels.”
