Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson has criticised the 2026-27 NSW State Budget, saying regional communities have once again been overlooked, with no significant new investment for the Myall Lakes.
“This Budget was an opportunity for the Minns Labor Government to deliver for regional communities. Instead, the Myall Lakes has been left behind yet again,” Mrs Thompson said.
“Sadly, this is becoming a familiar story. Another Budget, another missed opportunity.”
While the Government has continued its existing commitment to the Lower Mid North Coast Health Service Project, there was no new funding to progress the broader vision for healthcare across the region.
“Our hospitals are under pressure, our population is growing, and local families deserve confidence that they can access quality healthcare close to home.”
“The Government had an opportunity to commit to the future healthcare needs of our region, but there was no additional funding for the Lower Mid North Coast Health Service Project and no new investment to improve healthcare services for the Bulahdelah community.”
Mrs Thompson said the people of Myall Lakes had been clear about their priorities. “Our communities have consistently called for better healthcare, safer roads and investment in essential infrastructure. Unfortunately, those priorities have been ignored.”
The Government also ignored key infrastructure priorities for our region, with no funding provided for upgrades to The Lakes Way corridor, the rebuild of Wingham Memorial Pool or the redevelopment of the Tuncurry Slipway.
“These are not luxury projects. They are critical investments that would improve safety, support local growth and strengthen our communities.”
“Instead of delivering new investment, this Budget largely repackages existing commitments while leaving major regional priorities unfunded.”
“Myall Lakes contributes enormously to this state. Our communities deserve more than recycled announcements and empty promises. I will continue fighting for the healthcare, infrastructure and services that the people of Myall Lakes deserve.”
