MYALL LAKES LEFT WAITING FOR PARAMEDICS

Posted March 27th, 2025

Tanya Thompson, Member for Myall Lakes, is calling out the Minns Labor Government for failing to allocate additional paramedics to the region, despite the urgent need for improved emergency healthcare in the Myall Lakes electorate.

Mrs Thompson said the government has repeatedly neglected the region, despite announcing increases to paramedic numbers across regional NSW.

“The Premier needs to explain why our ‘rural’ electorate has again missed out on any of the 250 allocated paramedics despite a high number of elderly residents and growing population pressures.

“Response times are only increasing, and residents are feeling the impact of delayed emergency care,” said Mrs Thompson.

The Minns Government has so far allocated new paramedics to locations such as Port Macquarie, Lismore, Lithgow, Mudgee, and Broken Hill – all worthy recipients, yet the Myall Lakes has been overlooked.

“We have residents waiting too long for an ambulance, paramedics being sent out of the area to cover shortfalls in other districts and frontline healthcare workers under immense pressure – we urgently need more paramedics.

“I urge the Premier and Minister for Regional Health to visit the Myall Lakes, speak to our paramedics, and see firsthand the challenges our region faces,” Mrs Thompson said.

With further paramedic allocations still to be determined, Mrs Thompson is demanding the NSW Government ensure Myall Lakes is included in the next round.
