Member for Myall Lakes Tanya Thompson has raised concerns about the latest Bureau of Health Information (BHI) data released this week.
The report reveals disappointing statistics for Manning Base Hospital and the rest of the state, highlighting the human cost of the Minns Labor Government’s industrial chaos and two years of budget cuts.
“Despite Manning Base Hospital seeing a 2.5 percent increase in Emergency Department presentations and a 7.4 percent increase in ambulance arrivals, there hasn’t been any additional resources to match this demand,” Mrs Thompson said.
“Elective surgeries are also down by more than 15 percent, which is simply unacceptable.”
Emergency care services are being stretched thin in the electorate, with just three ambulances budgeted for daytime use and vital resources redirected to other towns.
Mrs Thompson said it is leaving the community vulnerable and reaffirms the need to urgently prioritise the Manning Base Hospital redevelopment.
“This redevelopment is essential to addressing the worsening health crisis in our region and the Minns Government needs to get on with the project as soon as possible.
“Labor’s failure to ensure adequate staffing, proper budget management, and investment in critical infrastructure is leaving the people of Myall Lakes in the lurch.
“Our health workers are doing an incredible job under immense pressure, but they need proper support, and they don’t seem to be getting it from this government.”
