Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson has welcomed the commencement of
preliminary investigation works for the reconstruction of The Bight Bridge in Wingham.
The NSW Reconstruction Authority has approved early design and scoping funding
for the project, allowing critical groundwork to begin ahead of the detailed design
phase.
Over the coming week, a barge will be operating in the area while specialist crews
undertake geological investigations of the riverbed and rock base. The information
gathered will help engineers better understand local site conditions and inform the
design of the new bridge.
Mrs Thompson said it was encouraging to see progress being made on a project that
is so important to the local community.
“It’s great to see investigation works underway for The Bight Bridge. The community
has waited a long time to reach this point, and it’s encouraging to see tangible progress
towards rebuilding this vital connection,” Mrs Thompson said.
“These investigations are a critical step in ensuring the new bridge is designed and
built to meet the needs of our community well into the future.”
The findings from the geological testing will help guide the next stages of planning and
engineering design.
