The Myall Lakes will benefit from additional support in tackling domestic and family violence, with Manning Support Services (MSS) receiving funding to expand its Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) into Forster.
Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, welcomed the funding and its importance in breaking the cycle of domestic violence.
“This investment means that more men have access to the support and intervention services they need to take responsibility for their actions and be given the tools to change.”
“By expanding this program into Forster, there is more local support for families, this will help create safer homes, and protect women and children from harm.”
Manning Support Services has been running the program successfully in Taree and will now extend its reach to Forster and Gloucester, with additional funding of $878,151.94 allocated for the expansion.
MSS Connected Families Senior Manager, Renee Scarlett said, “This expansion will enhance our capacity to provide critical support to men committed to making positive behavioural changes and will also strengthen the safety of women and children within the community.”
“We are also focused on fostering greater community awareness and engagement in addressing domestic violence and promoting healthier relationship dynamics.”
MBCPs provide structured group work, individual case management, and ongoing risk assessments to ensure the safety of women and children while working with men to change their behaviours.
