DOUBLE DEMERITS IN FORCE THIS LONG WEEKEND

Posted April 16th, 2025

Tanya Thompson, Member for Myall Lakes, is urging motorists to take extra care this Easter long weekend, with double demerits in force from 12:00am Thursday, 17 April to 11:59pm Monday, 21 April 2025 across New South Wales.

“Easter is a time to relax, spend time with family, and enjoy the break – but it’s also one of the busiest times on our roads,” said Mrs Thompson.

“I’m urging everyone to drive to the conditions, allow extra time, and most importantly, arrive safely.”

The Easter period traditionally sees a sharp rise in traffic as families head off on holidays, visit loved ones, or attend community events across the Myall Lakes and beyond.

“With more cars on the road, more distractions, and longer travel times, it only takes one wrong decision to have devastating consequences,” Mrs Thompson said.

Police will have an increased presence on key roads and highways throughout the region and are urging everyone to take regular breaks when travelling long distances.
