Member for Myall Lakes Tanya Thompson today announced that ONLY the NSW
Nationals will bring back the Regional Seniors Travel Card if successful at the 2027
election.
The Regional Seniors Travel Card will provide eligible seniors in regional NSW with a
$250 prepaid card for fuel, taxis, and pre-booked train or coach tickets.
Mrs Thompson said Chris Minns and Labor cut the Regional Seniors Travel Card in
2023 despite our petition to save it receiving more than 22,000 signatures.
“We live in an incredible part of the world, but there is no doubt the distance and
isolation is a challenge, especially for our seniors,” Mrs Thompson said.
“From 2020 to the axing of the program under the Minns Labor Government, 64,444
seniors across the Myall Lakes used the card to the value of $7,158,523.14.”
NSW Nationals Leader and Shadow Minister for Regional NSW Gurmesh Singh said
seniors living in the regions have fewer transport options than those in the city and
deserve support to get to medical appointments, groceries, or connect with friends and
family.
Senior resident of Forster Elayne Macintosh states “This would take a load off the
financial burden of visiting family.”
“Sometimes we feel so isolated here, so to be able to travel with some financial strain
taken off me, I welcome the card.” Mrs Macintosh said.
