Member for Myall Lakes Tanya Thompson is calling on the Minns Labor Government to stand up a temporary healthcare facility for the Great Lakes Community during the ongoing weather event.
Mrs Thompson said with Taree isolated, and with no way for residents to access Manning Hospital, a temporary facility is urgently needed for the community.
“Great Lakes is home to the second oldest demographic in NSW with many members of our community unable to travel far at the best of times,” Mrs Thompson said.
“I have personally spoken with Premier Chris Minns and Health Minister Ryan Park, and I am hopeful we will have a solution as soon as possible.”
Thousands of homes, families and business have been impacted as the Manning River surpassed the 1929 record of six metres on Wednesday morning.
Shadow Minister for Regional Health and Emergency Services Gurmesh Singh praised the work of paramedics and emergency service crews in the region but said a temporary healthcare facility is urgently required.
“With roads potentially cut off for days, and more heavy rain forecast in the coming days, we must ensure people have access to emergency care when they need it most,” Mr Singh said.
