Member for Myall Lakes Tanya Thompson has congratulated Black Head resident Kristine Simeon, who has been named the Mid North Coast Senior Volunteer of the Year at the 2025 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards in Port Macquarie.
Kristine volunteers with the Justice Advocacy Service through the Intellectual Disability Rights Service, helping people with cognitive impairments navigate the court and justice system in Forster and Tuncurry.
“Kristine is a wonderful person who works quietly behind the scenes, she attends court several times a week to sit beside people and make sure they feel supported. I’m proud to see her recognised for the care she gives,” Mrs Thompson said.
The awards, hosted by The Centre for Volunteering, are now in their 19th year and celebrates the incredible contribution of volunteers across NSW.
Mrs Thompson also acknowledged Kay Goon of Taree, who was nominated for the Senior Volunteer of the Year Award.
“Kay has given so much to our community through groups like Riding for the Disabled, Can Assist, the Manning Education Centre, Taree Lions, the Manning Regional Art Gallery and the Rainbow Warriors. It was an honour to nominate her,” Mrs Thompson said.
“Both Kay and Kristine show the very best of what volunteering is about.”
Mrs Thompson added her congratulations to all the nominees recognised at the awards, saying their efforts make communities across the Mid North Coast stronger and more connected.
Kristine will now represent the Mid North Coast at the State Gala Ceremony later this year, where the overall NSW Volunteer of the Year will be announced.
