Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, has welcomed more than $128,000 in NSW Government funding for two local surf life saving clubs, helping deliver practical upgrades that will benefit both volunteers and the wider community.
Forster Surf Life Saving Club will receive $87,938 to install a solar and battery system, including 38kW of solar panels and 96kW of battery storage. The project will significantly reduce the club’s reliance on the power grid and remove the need for a costly new substation, saving around $400,000.
Taree Old Bar Surf Life Saving Club Inc has secured $40,319 to replace 39 metres of corroded disability access railing along the ramp to its first-floor function room. The upgrade will ensure the facility remains safe, compliant and accessible for all.
Mrs Thompson said the funding delivers real, practical outcomes for local clubs.
“These are the kinds of upgrades that make a real difference day to day, reducing costs, improving safety, and making sure everyone can access these important community spaces,” Mrs Thompson said.
“Surf life saving clubs are at the heart of our coastal communities. They keep people safe on our beaches, train the next generation, and bring communities together.”
